Donnamarie O’Connell

Senior Technical Advisor, RSPCA International

Twitter: @donnamarieoc

Donnamarie has a BSc in Zoology and an MA in Conservation Biology, and her first job was with Jersey Zoo. She later moved on to the RSPCA, running their animal welfare-training programme in Europe. In 2008, Donnamarie started the RSPCA’s Africa programme, and today works closely with charities and governments in several countries in Africa. Her work focuses on illegal wildlife crime and integrating animal welfare into government programmes and policy. Donnamarie believes that the easiest or most obvious pathway in life may not bring you the experiences, networks and friends that the more challenging pathway will.

“I love to travel and think it is a real privilege to have the opportunity to visit other countries. I dream of doing the trek to see mountain gorillas!”
